Canberra exhibition and workshop

From 20 June to 7 July 2013 I'll be having an exhibition at M16 Artspace in Canberra, and over the last four days conduct a workshop in advanced tapestry techniques. In particular the techniques I have been specialising in with my own work. We will be looking at things such as combining hatching and half passing, tips for controlling edges and working over large areas and tight spaces. The workshop will be for people with a reasonable amount of tapestry weaving experience.

Here is a work in progress photo of a piece woven a few years ago. The image below shows a similar detail of the finished work. You'll see that I've woven it upside down, as it is much easier to fill in a tight space than weave a tall peak, especially when half passing.

An example of the sort of things we can look at during the workshop. Please feel free to email me with any questions, suggestions on subjects to cover, costs and to register your interest. There will be a discounted rate for students. The workshop will be over the last four days of the exhibition, which includes a weekend. So you will have the option of attending all four days or just the two days of the weekend at half the price. Remember, tapestry is essentially craft and developing good technique opens the door to creative possibilities.

I will post updates here.

The J.M.W. Turner exhibition will be on at the NGA at the same time, so a great time to visit Canberra.

some work from 2012

Here are some pieces, tapestries and photos from last year.

This installation is from the exhibition 'Un:sighted' at Fortyfive downstairs, Melbourne with Louise Blyton, Emma Langridge, Troy Mendham, Lynette Smith and Peter Summers.

This body of work will be extended for a complete exhibition at M16 Artspace, Canberra,
from 20 June to 7 July 2013.

The tapestries and photos are all 30x30cm and the entire installation will be over 40 works in a single line. I will also be holding a workshop in advanced tapestry techniques during the last four days of the exhibition, with more details to follow soon.
